GAYA kepimpinan pengetua cemerlang di dua buah sekolah menengah kebangsaan di daerah Seremban, Negeri Sembilan Darul Khusus


Kajian ini dijalankan untuk melihat gaya kepimpinan seorang Pengetua Cemerlang di dua buah sekolah menengah kebangsaan, di daerah Seremban, Negeri Sembilan Darul Khusus. Kajian ini berdasarkan Teori Laluan Matlamat (Path-Goal Theory) oleh House (1974). Responden kajian ini terdiri daripada 83 orang guru dan 22 orang staf sokongan dari Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan King George V dan Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Ampangan, Seremban. Alat ukur Leadership Behavior Description Questionnaire (LBDQ) yang diubahsuai oleh House (1974) digunakan bagi mengkaji gaya kepimpinan pengetua. Data yang diperolehi daripada kajian ini diproses dengan menggunakan program SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science). Dua jenis statistik digunakan iaitu statistik deskriptif dan statistik inferensi. Statistik deskriptif seperti frekuensi, peratus, min dan sisihan lazim digunakan bagi menghurai sampel dan menjawab soalan-soalan kajian. Manakala statistik inferensi seperti Ujian-t, ANOVA Satu Hala dan Korelasi Pearson digunakan untuk menguji hipotesis-hipotesis kajian. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan gaya kepimpinan yang paling dominan diamalkan oleh Pengetua Cemerlang daripada persepsi guru dan staf sokongan ialah tingkah laku berorientasikan pencapaian. Ini diikuti tingkah laku mengarah juga pada tahap tinggi manakala tingkah laku menyokong dan tingkah laku penyertaan pada tahap sederhana.

THE leadership behaviour of the principal of an excellent school : a study carried out at Sekolah Menengah Paduka Tuan Segamat, Johor Darul Takzim

The research is aimed at identifying the leadership behaviour of the principal of an excellent school namely Sek. Men. Paduka Tuan Segamat, Johor Darul Takzim as perceived by the teachers and his workers. This research is also aimed at finding out whether there is a significant difference in perception between teachers and workers with regards to the leadership behaviour of the principals. This research involves the behaviour of the principals based on the House's Path-Goal Theory (1971). The researcher uses the Leadership Behaviour Description Questioner (LBDQ). This questioner describes the leadership behaviour of the principal. Target group of the research involves 72 teachers and 15 school workers of the Sekolah Menengah Paduka Tuan Segamat Johor Darul Takzim. The result shows that the principal of the school adopts an achievement oriented and supportive attitude. The result also shows a significant difference in perception between teachers and school workers on the leadership behaviour of the school principal.


LEARDERSHIP styles of excellent principal of two national secondary schools in Seremban District, Negeri Sembilan Darul Khusus











This research was conducted to find out the leadership styles of an excellent principal of two national secondary schools, in Seremban district, Negeri Sembilan Darul Khusus. The research was based on the Path-Goal Theory introduced by House (1974). The respondents of this research comprised of 83 teachers and 22 support staffs of the King George V secondary schools and Seri Ampangan secondary school, Seremban. The measuring tool "Leadership Behavior Description Questionnaire" (LBDQ) adapted by House (1974) was used in the examination of the leadership styles of the principal. The data gathered in the research was analysed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). Two statistical analyses; the descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were used in the analysis of data. The descriptive statistics by means of frequencies, percentages, means and standard deviations were used in analyzing the samples and answering the research questions. The inferential statistics such as t-test, one way ANOVA Pearson Correlation were utilized to test the research hypotheses. The research findings established that the most dominant leadership style practiced by the excellent principal from the perceptions of the teachers and the school's support staffs was achievement - oriented actions or behaviour. This way followed by slightly high level of directive-oriented behaviour while supportive and participative behaviour were ranked as averagely effective.
