THE LEADERSHIP of the principal in managing student development
The purpose of this research is to investigate the school Principal's leadership in adminstering co-curricular activities in Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tinggi, Kajang, Selangor Darul Ehsan. It cover five areas which are, students participation, talent enrichment, students inclination towards co-curricular and sense of belonging. A set of questionnaires were given to 300 respondents from form one to form 5. In this research, the researcher used the leadership theory as the basis for research. The data was descriptively analysed using percentage. The results revealed that students participation in co-curricular activities is 75.7% (average), talent enrichment is 78.4% (average),students inclination towards co-curricular activities is 65.9% (average), discipline cultivation is 56.1% (low) and sense of belonging is 71.9% (average). Overall the study revealed that the Principal's leadership in terms of co-curricular activities management is 69.9% which is an average percentage. The implication of this study is that, it revealed the duties and problems faced by the Principal in leading and managing the development of student's co-curricular activities.
